One interesting indictment is against Hymenaeus and Alexander. " Holding faith and a good conscience; which some having put away concerning faith have made shipwreck" (I Tim. 1:19).

"Having put away." "The A. V. (King James Version, DW) is not strong enough. Better, having thrust from them. It implies willful violence against conscience" (Vincent, Word Studies in the New Testament, Vol. 4, pg. 215).

Faith and a good conscience had deliberately been cast aside by Hymenaeus and Alexander. Therefore, they were delivered unto Satan.

Christians must hold faith and a good conscience. They cannot be tossed to and fro. False teachers are in the world, attempting to corrupt fidelity to God.

A Christian cannot bid God-speed to the false teacher (2 Jn. 10-11). Some preachers and teachers believe in a special indwelling of the Spirit, separate from the word of God. Often, these conclude a present day miraculous activity for the Spirit.

Oral Roberts is such a false teacher. He has a very interesting TV program, often carrying "big name" screen and television stars to attract the audience. Mrs. Oral (Evelyn) Roberts commented on the "Expo '70 TV Special" (Abundant Life, September, 1970, pg. 12), "Of course, the whole idea in having performers on the program is to get people--especially non-churchgoers--to tune in to hear them and then stay tuned for the message and prayer."

Pat Boone, well-known in the church of Christ, has begun to cohort with these modern "tongue-speakers." Mrs. Roberts said, "You will see and hear Pat Boone. Pat has recently experienced the infilling of the Holy Spirit and his wife, Shirley, and their four daughters all share this experience" (Ibid, pg. 15).

Pat has previously been warned, exhorted, encouraged, taught, and prayed for . . . but apparently to no avail. He has made "Adult Only" films, has smoked before camera, played drunk scenes (required only one take), and now spiritually supports error. He has done much to destroy your child from the faith.

Pat Boone is now encouraging this false teacher, Oral Roberts (and others), in his error. Brethren need to cease defense of Pat, and expose him as another false teacher.
